Drywall Contractor Growth is an independent publication for people who own drywall companies: hang-and-finish crews that work for builders, repair outfits that live on homeowner calls, and the two-truck shops doing both. It exists because this trade gets almost no straight advice about marketing, only cold calls from lead sellers and pitches for a "system" nobody will show numbers for.
Who writes it
Steven Von is the editor. He has spent years running growth campaigns for local service businesses, drywall and finishing contractors among them, and has watched the same pattern repeat: an owner with excellent work, a handful of reviews, no website, and a phone that only rings when the builder calls. Every page here is written to change that pattern with things an owner can check. There are no guest posts, no sponsored guides and no affiliate links.
Where the benchmark data comes from
The benchmark report is built from public Google Business Profile listings. Once a month we pull every listing Google returns for drywall contractor searches in every US state, deduplicate them by place so a shop with two listings counts once, and summarize what is public: review counts, star ratings, whether a website is linked, whether hours and a photo are listed. The current pull covers 9,203 drywall companies in 51 states.
We collect no private data and never publish anything about an individual business. The numbers are aggregates and they are imperfect: Google's category tagging is loose and a few listings are supply stores or closed shops. We clean what we can and say so where we cannot.
Editorial rules
- No pay-to-play. Nobody can buy a mention, a ranking or a guide.
- Every number is sourced. Dataset figures update live when the data refreshes. Prices and cost-per-lead figures are ranges from campaigns we have run or public rate data, never a single point.
- Opinion is marked. "We think" and "in our experience" mean the editor's view, not a statistic.
- No invented results. No made-up case studies, no "a shop in Ohio tripled its leads" stories.
- Plain language. If a finisher on a lunch break would not follow a sentence, it gets rewritten.
How the free trial works
Every service on this site is offered as a free 14-day trial. You text or call (385) 452-7092, we have one setup conversation about your service area, your work mix and your prices, and the service goes live. For two weeks it runs at no cost. Ad spend, if any, goes to Google or Meta on your own card. At the end you see the numbers and decide: continue month to month at the price quoted up front, switch services, or stop. Nothing renews on its own and there is no card on file.
The trial exists because the usual sales order is backwards. An owner should see calls, reviews or a finished website before paying for any of it. Corrections, questions about the data, or a topic you want covered: text or call the number above.
